Giroud was sent off after 'forgetting the first warning' in Milan's win over Spezia

Milan striker Olivier Giroud admitted that he forgot he had received a previous yellow card when he took off his shirt to celebrate a late goal during a difficult 2-1 win over Spezia in the Italian Football League, and was sent off yesterday.

Milan took advantage of Atlanta's 2-1 loss at home to leaders Napoli to snatch the defending champions second place by defeating relegation-threatened Spezia with Giroud's killer goal.

"The most important thing is that we got three more points, but I am very angry because I forgot to get my first yellow card," the France striker told Sky Sports.

He added, "The adrenaline and happiness of dedicating the victory to the team played a role, after a tough confrontation I acted like a child, but I have complete confidence in the team."

Milan coach Stefano Pioli said he understood Giroud lost control of himself after the winning goal.

"Our great belief in the victory cheers us up and it can get out of hand, that means he will miss Tuesday's match," he told AC Milan television.

AC Milan, who are six points behind leaders Napoli, visit Cremonese, who are second to last on Tuesday.
