Short tracker Anna Seidel (Dresden) set a German record over 1000 meters at the World Cup in Salt Lake City.

In the run-up, the clocks stopped for the 24-year-old at 1:26.162 minutes.

Seidel beat her own record from 2019 by almost three seconds and qualified for the quarterfinals.

She is also in the semi-finals in the 1500m.

Last but not least, Seidel benefited from the enormous speed of her direct opponent Suzanne Schulting in her record run.

The Olympic champion from the Oranje team, who was accustomed to success, drew Seidel with her and even set a world record in the end with a time of 1:25.958.

World champion Xandra Velzeboer set a second world record for the Netherlands in the 500 meters in 41.416 seconds.

Canada's Kim Boutin has held the previous record for three years in 41.936 seconds.

Anna Seidel started the post-Olympic season at the beginning of October with a strong third place over 1000 meters at the Dutch Open in Heerenveen.

Only the Dutch Olympic champions Xandra Velzeboer and Selma Poutsma had been better than the Dresdener.

Motivation problems after the Olympics

“For me it was a test for the World Cup.

I had Corona for three weeks and still had my doubts as to whether it made sense to start in Heerenveen," said Seidel, "but the competition was fun.

It was exhausting to find the motivation again after the disappointing Olympic Games.

I also thought about retiring, but I didn't want to end my career like that."

In March 2021, Seidel sustained a serious injury during World Cup training in Dordrecht (Netherlands).

With a training deficit, she retired in February 2022 at the Winter Games in Beijing over 1500 meters in the first round.
