JRA = Japan Racing Association's 56-year-old Yoshiomi Shibata won at Fukushima Racecourse on the 5th, setting a new record for the oldest JRA jockey victory.

On the 5th, Shibata jockey rode the 3rd most popular horse in the 1st race at Fukushima Racecourse and finished 1st, winning his 2nd victory this year.



The record for the oldest jockey to win the JRA is 56 years, 2 months and 24 days, set in January 2005 by former jockey Yukio Okabe, who has 2,943 career wins, and 56 years, 3 months and 7 days. Shibata jockey has updated this record.



Shibata, who made his debut in 1985, is the oldest active jockey in the JRA and has won nine G1 races, riding offside traps and Nakayama Festa.



His total number of victories is 2316, including the victory on the 5th.

Breaking Yukio Okabe's record "Feeling a little closer"

Yoshiomi Shibata had heard that if he won one race, he would break the record the day before. I didn't think about it. I'm glad I was able to achieve it."



Regarding breaking the record of former jockey Yukio Okabe, he said, "I'm very sorry. I think I've been able to ride for a long time while being supported by everyone. It's not as good as it is, but with this victory today, I feel like I've gotten a little closer."
