When Chelsea beat Dinamo Zagreb 2-1 in Wednesday's Champions League match, English national team defender Ben Chilwell was injured.
Now, after an X-ray, it is clear that the injury to the back of the thigh will stop him from the approaching world championship in Qatar.
"The result (on x-ray, editor's note) shows that Ben has sustained a significant injury and the defender is unfortunately expected to miss the World Cup," writes Chelsea on the club's website.
How long Chilwell, who has played 17 caps since making his debut against Switzerland four years ago, will be out is not clear.
