It was during a training camp in Alicante, Spain that the accident happened.

Amy Pieters, 31, was in Spain with the Dutch national team and lost consciousness after a collision.

She was then taken by ambulance helicopter to hospital and underwent surgery and was then placed in an induced coma.

Four months later, at the end of April, Pieters woke up from his coma.

Today, she tells via helpers on social media that she took her first steps with the help of a walker.

"With a little help, she gets up from her chair and takes her own steps.

She walks for short periods when she is supported.

This is what we like to see.

We must have patience and hope.

We are convinced that Amy will show us some very beautiful things, it is written about Pieters on her Instagram.

Was hard to motivate

Although there has been a slight improvement, the brain damage is still severe and Pieters is unable to speak.

Everyday life can be stressful and heavy.

“Lately it's been a little harder to motivate Amy with physical effort.

Can't talk to her yet, which makes it hard to explain to her.

Not being able to explain or express it is sometimes a bit difficult for her and for us," the post reads.

A year ago, Pieters became world champion for the third year in a row in the velodrome cycling discipline madison together with Kirsten Wild.
