On the 36th lap (of 56), Verstappen entered the pits from the lead.

There was a failed tire change and the Dutchman was no better than sixth when he left the pits and started a furious chase for lost positions.

It was the front left tire that messed up.

The stop that should have taken around 3-4 seconds took eleven seconds.

On the 50th lap, Verstappen caught up with Lewis Hamilton who was in the lead and passed him.

Hamilton tried to respond and push past on the inside a couple of corners but was able to hold off.

In the closing laps, Verstappen was warned that there could be a penalty if he drove inside the white track markings.

Hamilton was also warned about "track limits".

During the 22nd lap, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll were involved in an incident.

Alonso was going to overtake Stroll and came from behind and ran into Stroll, who spun and crashed into the barrier where, among other things, a tire came off and the car was badly dented.

Alonso's car lifted and he floated forward on the rear tires before also ramming into the barrier on the opposite side.

Despite the accident, Alonso was able to continue the race.

Lots of objects were strewn onto the track and the safety car came in.

The race was stopped and the debris was cleared away.

Alonso declared on the radio that he was fine and at the same time thought that Stroll moved the car sideways too late and thus caused the collision.
