Manchester United coach wants to focus on football, not contracts

Manchester United manager Eric ten Hag hopes his players will focus more on performance on the field than contract negotiations as Cristiano Ronaldo, David de Gea, Marcus Rashford and other players spend the final year on their contracts.

And this trio, who all participated in the goalless draw with Newcastle last Sunday, have the option of extending their contracts for an additional year.

"We have to focus only on performance, as we have a lot of matches ahead of us. So I don't want to interfere in the negotiations," Ten Hag told reporters.

Asked whether the expiration of contracts gives players an additional incentive to perform, Ten Hag said: "Some players get excited and seek to draw attention to renewing contracts, but this is not the case. We are governed by a certain culture at United and we always need players at the highest level and with great motivation. We are looking We are proud of these types of players and fortunately we have a large number of them in the team."

United, who are fifth in the Premier League, host Tottenham Hotspur later today.
