The ball, which Argentine international Diego Maradona used to score his famous hand goal against England in the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, will be auctioned next month, at a cost of between 2.8 million and 3.3 million dollars.

Maradona scored this goal when he deceived everyone and jumped to turn the ball with his hand in front of English goalkeeper Peter Shilton to open the scoring in the quarter-final match at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.

After the controversial incident, Maradona scored a second goal with a great individual effort, which became known as the "Goal of the Century" and his country won the match 2-1 before winning the title after defeating Germany in the World Cup final, which is credited for Maradona's individual effort.

The former Tunisian referee Ali Bennacer, who managed the match and failed to detect handball, owns the ball he got after the match.

The ball will be sold by Graham Podd Auctions on Wednesday, November 16th.

The British news agency "PA Media" reported that the Tunisian referee felt that it was time to share the ball with the world, expressing his hopes that the buyer would display it to the public.

Speaking about the hand-scored goal, Bennacer said, "I could not see the incident clearly. I could see Shelton and Maradona from behind."

"He was quite clever because he flicked his head at the same time."

Peter Shilton says Diego Maradona had greatness but no sportsmanship because he never apologised for his infamous Hand of God goal in the 1986 World Cup.

He added, "According to the instructions of the International Federation of the game before the tournament, I looked at the referee of the flag to ensure the correctness of the goal, and he was heading to the middle of the field, indicating that the goal was correct."

And the Tunisian referee added, "At the end of the match, the England coach, Bobby Robson, told me: I did a good job, but the referee was irresponsible."

Maradona, who died in November 2020, claimed that the goal was scored "with a little part of Maradona's head and part of the hand of God."

The shirt that Maradona wore during the quarter-final match was sold last May for $ 8.2 million, a record amount for a sporting souvenir.
