It has been speculated whether Red Bull breached the cost ceiling and spent too much money during the 2021 season. Among other things, Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton, who lost the World Championship title to Verstappen after a dramatic final race, has questioned Red Bull.

“If we had spent £300,000 on a new floor or fixed a wing it would have changed the outcome of the championship.

Then we would have been able to compete in a better way, Hamilton has said, among other things.

Now the international motorsport federation FIA has announced the outcome of their review: Red Bull exceeded the budget ceiling, but it is only a minor and not a major offence.

They must have exceeded the budget by less than five percent.

This means that the penalties, which are currently not determined, will not be so severe.

Most things indicate, for example, that it will not affect the sporting results from the 2021 season.

Aston Martin also broke the rules for cost ceilings, but there it was a matter of a design flaw and not that the cost ceiling has been exceeded.

The cost cap last season was $145 million per season and it has now been lowered to $140 million.

Next season it will be lowered further.
