Kristian Karlsson was forced to break the EC semi-final against the Slovenian Darko Jorgic in August.

Karlsson hit his hand bloody and tearfully had to throw in the towel.

Three weeks have passed since then and even though he is on the right track, the 31-year-old, who is the reigning world and European champion in doubles with Mattias Falck, is not yet fully recovered.

Karlsson has got scarring over his hand which makes it not feel like it usually does.

- It's not the scar itself that's the problem, but the flesh inside that hasn't quite healed yet.

That's how I understood it at the doctor.

It will be a little different with this scar.

The racket will feel different at first, but you will get used to it, says Karlsson.

Problem with the server

After the injury, Karlsson has practiced two sessions and he says that the healing process is going according to plan.

To a large extent, he has been able to play his game as usual, but it is above all a detail that now at the beginning has not been as usual.

- The only thing I can't really do is serve.

Then I put it against the scar.

So there has been a bit of napkin training, he says.

But for the team WC in Chengdu, which begins on September 30, there should be no problems.

- It should have healed by then.

That is the hope and I am convinced of that, he says.

TT: What can we expect from you at the WC?

- In the last championships, we have almost always won a medal, except at the Olympics then.

We aim to refine our bronze medal from the last team WC (2018).

In addition to Karlsson, the Swedish men's squad consists of Jon Persson, Anton Källberg, Truls Möregårdh and Mattias Falck.

Karlsson thinks it will be "crap good".

- We maintain a high standard and have a broad squad, he says.
