After the surprising exit as a coach at Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel made his first public statement and was extremely disappointed.

"I'm devastated that my time at Chelsea has come to an end," wrote the 49-year-old German coach on Twitter on Sunday evening in English.

"This is one of the most difficult statements I have ever had to write - and I had hoped that I would not have to do it for many years." Chelsea FC had on Wednesday after just six matchdays of the Premier League season and the The opening defeat in the Champions League separated from Tuchel.

"It will always be remembered"

Tuchel went on to tweet that Chelsea was a club "where I felt at home, both professionally and personally".

He thanked all the staff, the players and the fans who made him feel welcome from the start.

"I will always remember the pride and joy I felt helping the team win the Champions League and Club World Cup," wrote Tuchel, adding: "I am honored to To have been a part of the history of this club and the memories of the last 19 months will always have a special place in my heart."

Tuchel's contract was valid until the summer of 2024. Just a few weeks ago, the British media had speculated about an early contract extension.

Tuchel had won the Champions League, the Supercup and the Club World Cup with the Blues.

Chelsea have only picked up ten points from six games under him this season.

On Tuesday evening, the Blues lost their opening game in the premier class embarrassingly 1-0 at Dynamo Zagreb.

According to English media reports, a tense relationship with the club management around the new owner Todd Boehly was the reason for the separation.

Only a day after the separation from Tuchel, Chelsea had named Graham Potter as his successor.

The Premier League club from London signed the coach from league rivals Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 47-year-old has signed a five-year contract, the club said.

"Potter is one of the most exciting coaches in the sport," Chelsea wrote on its website.

Potter has been the coach of the "Seagulls" since 2019, who are currently two places and three points ahead of Chelsea in the table.

The former Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion professional had previously coached Swedish club Östersunds FK for seven years.

He was Swansea City manager from 2018 to 2019.

In Brighton he managed to keep the team in the Premier League despite significantly less financial means than most of his competitors.

The team from southern England finished ninth last season.

After Potter's verbal commitment, Chelsea still had to agree with Brighton.

According to information from the "Mirror", the transfer fee for the desired coach should be around 23 million euros.

"I'm incredibly proud and excited to represent Chelsea, this fantastic football club," Potter was quoted as saying on his new club's website.

He said he was "extremely excited to be working with the new Chelsea FC ownership group and to develop a team and a culture that our amazing fans can be proud of."

Meanwhile, Brazil international Thiago Silva bid farewell to his former coach with an emotional message.

Tuchel and his team were not only good professionals, but also amazing people, the 37-year-old defender wrote on Twitter.

"It was a real privilege to meet you and work with you.

Thank you for everything Thomas Tuchel, I wish I could have been more helpful," explained Silva.

"God bless you and your family."
