Irishman Lowry settled the contest with a birdie on the 18th hole, winning by one stroke ahead of Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy.

No fewer than 18 players belonging to the controversial and Saudi-funded LIV tour took part in the competition.

The best of them was the American Talor Gooch, who finished fourth.

“Did everything for the tour”

And just winning over the LIV players was something Lowry was a little extra happy about.

- I wanted to go out there and win the competition for myself and for those who continued to be loyal and did everything for the tour.

This is a victory for the good guys, he said, according to the BBC.
