On Thursday, Malmö FF entered the group stage of the Europa League, as the only Swedish team.

Braga, pushed MFF back for large parts of the first half.

After just over a quarter of a game, the guests from Portugal had a ball in the net, Abel Ruiz shot a hard cross into the net, but it was ruled out for offside.

But after half an hour of play, the lead came, well deserved.

Jo Inge Berget lost the header duel against his player on a corner, who was able to link the ball to centre-back Bruno Rodrigues who converted 1-0 to Braga.

Peña caused the penalty

The visitors had another goal at the start of the second half, but Malmö were again saved by the offside.

Martin Olsson had a good chance, close to Braga's goalkeeper, in the 63rd minute, but was blown off for foul play.

With twenty minutes left came the decisive goal of the match.

Malmö's Peruvian Sergio Peña slipped and tackled in his own penalty area, the Braga player fell and the referee blew a penalty.

From eleven meters, Ricardo Horta was safe and made it 2-0 to Braga, who survived the match.

The next match for MFF in the Europa League is next Thursday, away to Union Saint Gilloise from Belgium who won their opener against Union Berlin.
