The World Cup bronze medalists Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann are German beach volleyball champions for the first time.

The duo, who train in Hamburg, beat their city rivals Sandra Ittlinger and Isabel Schneider from FC St. Pauli in the final in Timmendorfer Strand on Sunday with 25:23, 21:16.

On Friday, Ittlinger/Schneider had won the first quarter-final against Müller/Tillmann, who then fought their way through the "losers' round" in the championships, which were played in a double knockout system, to the final.

Olympic champion Kira Walkenhorst and her partner Anna-Lena Grüne clearly won the match for third place against Christina Aulenbrock/Sandra Ferger from VfL Osnabrück with 21:15, 21:15.

The defending champions Chantal Laboreur and Sarah Schulz had to involuntarily end their last joint German championships early.

Due to gastrointestinal diseases and fever, they dropped out of the tournament on Friday.

According to the organizers, both players were suspected of having food poisoning.

Karla Borger and Julia Sude had already canceled at short notice on Thursday.

Sude was diagnosed with food poisoning.

Lea Kunst/Leonie Körtzinger also had to pass due to gastrointestinal problems.
