On 21 January 2019, Emiliano Sala was killed in a plane crash in the English Channel while on his way to Cardiff to complete a move to the then Premier League club.

The international football association Fifa decided that Cardiff City should pay 6 million euros (part of the transfer fee of 17 million euros), equivalent to 64 million kroner, to French Nantes for the purchase of the Argentinian soccer player.

Something that Cardiff appealed to the sports court of arbitration Cas three years ago when they did not consider themselves liable to pay for the transfer.

Now Cas has come up with a decision rejecting Cardiff's appeal.

"Cas rejects Cardiff City FC's appeal and confirms that Emiliano Sala's transfer was fully completed before his death," Cas writes in a statement.

The aftermath of the tragic accident has been long.

Last year, the businessman who arranged the flight was sentenced to 18 months in prison by a court in Cardiff.

He is considered to have compromised the safety of the aircraft.

The British Accident Investigation Branch ruled that the pilot who flew the plane was unlicensed to fly it.

It is revealed that he lost control after driving too fast.

In addition, it appears from the investigation that the pilot was most likely affected by carbon monoxide poisoning.
