After being ranked second in the world jumping rankings for the majority of 2022, it looked like it would be the same in August.

But the FEI recalculated the ranking that was first presented, and then Henrik von Eckermann was at the top.

To SVT Sport, Henrik von Eckermann says that it means a lot to him to be at the top of the world ranking.

- This is the biggest thing I've done so far.

It's not just a performance you have to do in one weekend.

But there is a very long way to go, you have to stay on top all the time.

As you can see with me and my results from the Olympics last year and until now, the results have been consistent and strong.

Since it's the top 30 results that count, they have to be incredibly good to get to over 3000 points like I have.

Third Swede at the top

He is the third Swede to become world number one in jumping.

First was Rolf-Göran Bengtsson in 2012 and as recently as 2021-2022 Peder Fredricson topped the list.

In less than a year, two different Swedish show jumpers have been ranked highest in the world.

- It has been a fantastic year, Tokyo was incredible and then it has continued with incredible results.

Also many other Swedish riders who have achieved good results, so it's great fun, I hope we can continue, at least for one more week, says von Eckermann, referring to the WC which starts on August 9.

The Swedish show jumping team are favorites ahead of the World Cup, which will be held in Herning, Denmark.

But von Eckermann feels no extra pressure from being the new world number one.

- I have to say that it is only an advantage.

I felt incredibly tagged even before, now you have to try to prove that you are worthy of being number one.

But King Edward is in great shape and I feel great too, so I'm looking forward to next week.

What is the goal?

- Of course, the goal is always number one.

Then we know that there is a long way to go, but that is of course the goal.
