Professional cyclist Pascal Ackermann (Kandel) celebrated his first victory after 137 days at the Tour of Poland.

The 29-year-old sprinter from UAE Team Emirates prevailed on Tuesday in the mass sprint of the fourth stage after 179.4 km between Lesko and Sanok ahead of Belgian Jordi Meeus from the German team Bora-hansgrohe.

After breaking his coccyx in the spring, Ackermann had to take a break for weeks.

"It's really important"

"It's amazing after my injury.

I finally feel like I'm back and the strength is back in my legs," said Ackermann, who returned to racing in early June: "It was really important for the upcoming races and the rest of the season."

Ackermann, who switched from Bora-hansgrohe to UAE for the 2022 season, achieved his second victory for the team from the United Arab Emirates.

The South Palatinate native had his premiere success on March 18th at the Bredene Koksijde Classic in Belgium.

The overall lead was maintained by the Colombian Sergio Higuita (Bora-hansgrohe).

The Alpecin-Deceuninck team did not compete in the fourth stage.

After five corona cases among employees, the team withdrew from the tour
