The American's trial continued in Khimki, Russia, on Wednesday.

It was Griner's first time testifying in court.

She risks ten years in prison for possession of e-cigarettes with cannabis oil.

In some states in the USA it is allowed for medical use - in Russia it is strictly prohibited.

She was taken into custody on February 17 at a Moscow airport after a several-hour conversation with the inspectors who found the e-cigarettes.

"I did not understand anything"

- The interpreter I received did not give a complete version of my story.

I was not given a lawyer and no one told me what rights I had.

Then I had to sign lots of papers and documents without any explanation of what they contained, says Brittney Griner.

- I did not understand anything.

I was allowed to hand over my personal belongings to a lawyer before being led away in handcuffs.

Admitted on July 7

On February 19, an interrogation was held where, according to her own statement, she received a cursory translation of what she was accused of.

A court ordered her detention the same day.

In the courtroom, she says that she has no idea how the cannabis oil ended up in the bag, but that it ended up there because of sloppy packing.

The oil was prescribed by doctors and was only used in the United States as a pain reliever for back and cartilage injuries.

On July 7, Brittney Griner pleaded guilty in the Russian court in Khimki.

Then she also asked for more time to prepare for her testimony, Reuters wrote on its website.

A testimony that she left now three weeks later.
