It was last July in a big match against Dustin Poirier that McGregor broke his tibia in the first round and had to be carried out of the octagon on a stretcher.

The superstar immediately promised that he would make a grand comeback in the UFC once the injury is fully healed, and now the return is getting closer and closer.

His trainer for many years, John Kavanagh, says that McGregor has now received the all-clear from doctors to train MMA fully again.

- He is healthy, happy and it is wonderful to have him back, says Kavanagh to the BBC.

Can get title match

Several fighters have been linked with McGregor recently.

Among other things, UFC lightweight champion – the weight class in which McGregor was champion between 2016 and 2018 – Charles Oliveira has said that he would like to face the sport's big cash cow.

- I would very much like to meet McGregor in Brazil in January.

That would be a lot of fun.

Everyone knows I want that match for the money, says the brass to Combate.

Gained muscle mass

John Kavanagh could not say when McGregor will be ready to compete again, or against whom, but says there would be no problem for the 34-year-old to return to lightweight (70.3 kilos) despite putting on visible muscle mass that the past year.

- I wrestled with him last night and I felt it, I can say.

He is very strong right now and when he grabs your neck with his gorilla arms it feels extra.

At the same time, there is no one more professional than Conor when it comes to making the weight limit, says Kavanagh.

There are many indications that McGregor will return in the latter part of 2022 or in the beginning of 2023.
