An exciting statement by the new coach of the Pharaohs’ national team: “I am an Egyptian like you” (video)

The new coach of the Egyptian national team, Portuguese Roy Vitoria, said today, Wednesday, that he feels very proud to be in a country that “loves football” and will seek to create other stars in the size and value of international Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool player.

The 52-year-old former Benfica and Al-Nasr coach took over earlier this month for four years, succeeding national coach Ihab Galal, who was sacked after only three games in the post.

Vitoria added in a press conference, to present it to the media and the public, "I have become an Egyptian from now. We have a long way ahead and I need the support of all Egyptians and I hope that we will all be one hand."

“I have worked with many clubs and most of the teams I have worked in for four years and I am excited to lead a team that has a project. So I agreed to coach the Egyptian national team because it has a project supported by 100 million people.

He added, "I have many ideas and love to work with young people in the national teams. I studied the Egyptian player well and he has great ambitions and gradually we will be able to develop the Egyptian player's skills.

"For Mohamed Salah, I do not like to talk about a specific player. I like teamwork. Salah is a great international player, but our task is to create more than one copy of Salah. We will take care of all the players."

For his part, Gamal Allam, president of the Egyptian Football Association, said that the board of directors preferred to contract Vitoria for four years in order to give him the opportunity to achieve "achievements".

He added in the press conference, "We have great confidence that the new coach will fulfill the aspirations of the Egyptian football fans and that he will receive support from everyone in his next mission."

"The Portuguese coach has a respectable personality and knows a lot about Egypt and Egyptian football," said Hazem Emam, a board member of the Egyptian Federation, who was behind Vitoria's selection.

He added, "We will strive to develop, so the contract was for four years, and we hope to support him in his mission to succeed. The path is not difficult and at the same time it is not easy."

Vitoria won the Portuguese League twice in a row with Benfica, along with the Portuguese Cup from 2015 to 2019.

Then he moved to Al-Nasr and won the Saudi Professional League title in the 2018-2019 season and the Saudi Super Cup.

His last stop was a short one last year with Russia's Spartak Moscow.

The Egyptian Federation quickly dispensed with the services of national coach Galal, after one victory and two defeats, one of them a friendly.

Galal was appointed coach of Egypt in April, succeeding Portuguese Carlos Queiroz, who led Mohamed Salah and his companions to the final of the African Nations Cup in Cameroon at the beginning of the year before losing to Senegal on penalties.

The defeat was repeated a few weeks later in the same way from Senegal in a playoff to determine the qualifier for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to mark the end of Queiroz's period after failing to renew his contract.

The first task for Vitoria will be to qualify for the Nations Cup in Ivory Coast, which was postponed to early 2024.
