In one corner of the ring is the American (PGA) and European Tour (DP World Tour).

In the second is the LIV tour.

The PGA has banned golfers from LIV from participating in their tour and the European Tour is in the middle of a process of doing the same, but the suspension of the European tour has been temporarily lifted.

Now four-time major winner Rory McIlroy invites the tours to talk to each other.

- It must happen, in retrospect you can see that there are things that could have been avoided, it is messy and I wish it did not happen, he told the BBC.

However, he still wants the golfers in the LIV tour to be suspended, but that a compromise needs to be found.

That because the golf world is fragmented.

- Right now it does not look good, everyone has to look themselves in the eye and work to get better.

McIlroy not only views sponsorship and involvement from Saudi Arabia negatively, but believes that in that case it must be done on the right grounds.

- I really understand people's reservations but at the same time: If these people are serious about investing billions in golf, then maybe that's a good thing?

But it must be done properly.

He continues:

- For example, Aramco (energy company that sponsors the women's tour) has been really good for women's golf as they came in with large amounts of money.
