The stage stretches over 178.5 kilometers, but with 40 kilometers left, Hugo Houle put in what came to be the victory jerk.

Houle could weepily cross the finish line as the only second Canadian stage winner in the tour's history, just over a minute ahead of the nearest competitor

Frenchman Valentin Vadouas took second place after a sprint battle with Houle's compatriot Michael Woods.

However, the overall leader is still Jonas Vingegaard.

The Dane's lead ahead of the last five stages is unchanged (two minutes and 22 seconds), as he and the closest chasing, the double Tour champion Tadej Pogacar from Slovenia, crossed the finish line at the same time in Foix.

On Sunday, Vingegaard can become the first Dane to cross the finish line on the Champs-Elysées in Paris as the winner since Bjarne Riis in 1996.
