To find traces of an Australian pair winning at Wimbledon, you have to go back to 2000 with Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde.

Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell, finalists at the Australian Open in January, won their first Grand Slam tournament on Saturday by beating Croatian defending champions Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic.

Ebden and Purcell won the fifth set super tie-break 7-6 (7/5), 6-7 (3/7), 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10/2) after a marathon match of 4:11 and when they had been led 4-2 in the decisive set.
