One of the worst nightmares that exists for an athlete is to get caught up in a doping test, especially if the athlete in question has not deliberately stuffed himself with an illicit product.

But that risk exists during the Olympics, the international anti-doping agency Wada now announces.

At least if the athletes eat Chinese meat.

May contain clenbuterol

Therefore, activists are now urged to "exercise extreme caution" when eating meat in China, due to the risk that they could ingest banned substances.

It is a known fact that Chinese meat can sometimes contain low levels of the steroid-classified steroid clenbuterol.

"Athletes should only eat in places that have been given the green light by the organizers," said a spokesman for Wada, according to the site Inside The Games.

Clear directives

In reality, however, it should not be a problem for most of the athletes, as most will only move between the Olympic village and the competition venues.

And there, the restaurants have received clear directives.

- It is the organizers and the government's responsibility to ensure that the meat that the athletes receive is not contaminated, says Wada's spokesperson.
