Many clubs wanted to get their hands on one of the world's greatest football talents this summer.

The Super League team Everton finally pulled the longest straw, and recruited the then 18-year-old Hanna Bennison from Rosengård.

The transfer fee has not been announced, but according to Aftonbladet, it landed somewhere between 1.5 million and 2.3 million kronor.

Five weighed heavily

In that case, it is the biggest deal for a Damallsvenskan player, and Everton have also confirmed that it is the club's most expensive women's signing of all time.

Now it turns out that it was also the entire football world's most expensive transfer on the women's side in 2021. In Fifa's report on last year's transfer market, Bennison's transfer ends up at the top.

The second most expensive was the Dutchman Jill Roord, who went from English Arsenal to German Wolfsburg.

This is followed by Alana Cook (Paris SG – OL Reign), Damaris Egurrola (Everton – Lyon) and Nikita Parris (Lyon – Arsenal).

Most expensive among men

The five transfers also accounted for almost 60 percent of the total amount that the women's clubs spent on new acquisitions last year.

That figure landed at around SEK 19 million, which is almost a doubling compared to the previous year.

On the men's side, the clubs spent less last year than in 2020, but the total is still at a completely different level than in women's football.

In total, the men's clubs invested almost SEK 44 billion in new acquisitions and the most expensive of all was Romelu Lukaku who left Italian Inter for English Chelsea.

According to information, Chelsea paid around SEK 1.2 billion for the Belgian.

Lukakus was next on the list by Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund – Manchester United) and Achraf Akimi (Inter – Paris Saint-Germain).
