The pre-match press conference with Pep Guardiola did not take place this Friday.

The Manchester City manager had to cancel it after receiving an inconclusive result in a Covid test.

He is now awaiting a result of a follow-up PCR test before knowing whether he will be able to lead the Cityzens for Sunday's trip to Newcastle, in the Premier League.

The 50-year-old Spanish technician traveled to Barcelona on Wednesday for the announcement of Sergio Agüero's retirement. Guardiola, whose mother died of Covid-19 last year, has in the past been very involved in preventing the disease and urged his players to get vaccinated against the coronavirus. "I am worried, not because the championship will suffer the consequences, but because in society, the virus is there and people are suffering," he said at the start of the week.

This meeting of the leader of the English championship in the penultimate is one of the five meetings which have yet to take place this weekend, nine other meetings (including six this weekend) having already been postponed in due to contamination of players with Covid-19, and the list of affected clubs is growing day by day.
