The footballers of VfL Wolfsburg clearly won their decisive group game against Chelsea and qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League on the last preliminary round matchday.

The leaders of the Bundesliga defeated last year's finalists from London 4-0 (2-0) on Wednesday evening and jumped from third to first place in Group A. Svenja Huth scored twice each in front of 1107 spectators in the Wolfsburg AOK Stadium in the 16th and 23rd minutes and Tabea Waßmuth in the 59th and 78th minutes.

“I'm incredibly proud and happy that the team managed to do that,” said Sport Director Ralf Kellermann.

The Wolfsburg women showed an impressive performance right from the start.

Since Italy's champions Juventus Turin defeated the underdog Servette FC from Switzerland at the same time, it was clear that VfL needed a win with a two-goal margin.

In the end, a rating of all direct duels between Wolfsburg, Chelsea and Juventus decided on progress.

The English women, who went as front runners this last match day, were surprisingly eliminated.

The quarter-finals will be drawn on next Monday and on 22/23.

Last season Wolfsburg were eliminated in the Champions League quarter-finals with 1: 2 and 0: 3 against Chelsea.

In the first leg of this season, VfL conceded the 3-3 equalizer in stoppage time.
