Elfsborg lost heavily against Norrköping in the last match and for today's clash they had to do without several important pieces.

Simon Strand, Frederik Holst and Andre Römer were suspended and were therefore not present when Varberg came to visit.

The yellow and blacks were initially the ball-leading team, however, they did not manage to get any clear chances.

Even if the guests did not in any way threatened Elfsborg, the team showed that it would be a match of the whole.

The gold-chasing Borås team was pressured in the first half, which ended goalless.

Fast-paced second half

From the 70th minute of the match, the intensity was high.

Varberg got off a number of finishes on goal but it was mainly the home team that rushed forward and created the most concern.

About ten minutes from the final signal, the goal zero was close to cracking.

Elfsborg substitute Jacob Ondrejka was responsible for a heavy finish - but was prevented this time by experienced goalkeeper Stojan Lukic.

In overtime, however, it went the other way.

Jean Carlos de Brito charged down the left and had a wonderful opportunity to score the equalizer for Tim Rönning, but the shot went well wide of the goal.

The home team had time to put real pressure on Varberg in the end and it led to several tangled situations in the offensive penalty area, but the guests stood for a fighting effort and kept the ball away from their own net.

Elfsborg will face Halmstad in the next round and Varberg will face AIK.
