In his 59 professional matches, the 31-year-old Alvarez has only lost once.

It was eight years ago against the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. who is ranked as one of history's foremost boxers.

Since then, "Canelo" has lined up 15 straight victories and holds three of the four world championships in super middleweight (WBC, WBA and WBO).

Tonight he faces undefeated American Caleb Plant (21-0, 12 KO) who holds the fourth belt (IBF).

The winner will make history as the first undisputed champion ever in the history of the weight class, and will also be the sixth boxer in history to hold all four champion belts in one and the same weight class.

"I want to write history"

- Can you imagine?

Being the sixth person in the entire boxing history to unite all the titles, and to be the first Latino to do so, would mean so much to my career, says Alvarez.

- Writing history motivates me.

I want to win these four belts and write history.

It is without a doubt the most important match of my career.

The match has received extra attention after the boxers started arguing already at a media meeting in September when they were face to face.

Bloody after the brawl

Plant is then said to have used the word "motherfucker" for Canelo, who became very irritated and pushed his opponent hard in the chest.

Plant responded by swinging towards Alvarez, who countered with his own hit before a large crowd of people intervened.

Plant left the meeting bleeding under the eye.

Now Alvarez says this about his opponent:

- He talks a lot, but so did Billy Joe Saunders.

Outside the ring they have great self-confidence and say everything possible, but inside the ring there is another five.

When the match day comes, it's different.

We'll see how it ends this time.
