There is only one person in the world who knows this feeling of a Golden Slam victory: That is Stefanie Maria Graf.

Within a year she defeated top-class opponents seven times in each of the four tournaments of the 128 best tennis players in the world - something that only four other people have ever managed, outside or at the beginning of the professional open era.

Then she went one better: the Olympic title.

That's another six additional wins.

The Golden Slam is the ultimate tennis triumph, an absolute exception.

Novak Đoković was on the verge of imitating Steffi Graf this year.

But in the penultimate game for Olympic gold, Graf's compatriot, who later became Olympic champion Alexander Zverev, intervened with his victory in the semifinals.

This amazed Đoković so much that he silenced his delegation in this game with a bloodcurdling roar.

In addition, in the duel for bronze, he hurled his bat into the stands, which fortunately was empty.

This is just a note of how much pressure is on even the most pressure-tested professional if you want to reach the Golden Slam.

De Groot wins again and again

But now that: Two Golden Slam winners are announced! Where? In wheelchair tennis. On Friday, Diede de Groot from the Netherlands and Japan's Kamiji Yui concluded the Paralympic day. When every other competition was over, they began their game in the rainproof Ariake Coliseum. Because of the constant drizzle, all parts were relocated to the roofed round.

De Groot, whose right leg is significantly shorter than the left, is the measure of all things for the R tennis women. Since joining the Tour in 2017, she has won eleven Grand Slam tournaments. Yui Kamiji, whose legs are paralyzed, has been with us a lot longer and has reached eight Grand Slams. But de Groot became her nemesis. Wherever she was in the final, de Groot took the trophies away from her. Their meeting in the Paralympic final was therefore Kamiji's feared and expected fate. But this time she had the home advantage.

In fact, a number of tennis fans with media access found their way to Tokyo Ariake. Neatly draped at a distance of two seat shells, they filled the media zone. The rest of the Olympic tennis park with its countless entrance and control areas also found themselves ghostly in the night drizzle. The volunteers had it all and gathered well hidden under the roof of the Colosseum. Kamiji is a brand in Nippon.

But at first it looked as if de Groot was breaking Kamiji's dreams as usual. De Groot's forehand was massive, her backhand variable. Kamiji looked disillusioned and a bit lacking in ideas, as if she already knew what was in store for her. The first movement went easily to de Groot. The rally in the second set was characteristic, at the end of which de Groot could only return high and Kamiji gave a high smash at the net. Kamiji bet on the body hit, but de Groot flipped casually into the corner with a backhand pass ball. Nothing more spoke for Kamiji.
