The Swedish swimmer finished fifth in the time of 2.12,33, just under nine seconds from the Russian gold medalist Valeriia Sjabalina.

There were British women in second to fourth place - Bethany Firth, Jessica-Jane Applegate and Louise Fiddes.

In the trials, Lindberg was fifth fastest, but not happy with his effort.
