The Chinese Sports Delegation for the 16th Paralympic Games is established
The 16th Paralympic Games will be held in Tokyo, Japan from August 24 to September 5, 2021. On August 17, the Chinese sports delegation will be established in Beijing.
The chairman of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation Zhang Haidi served as the head, the chairman Zhou Changkui served as the executive head, and the deputy chairman Wang Meimei served as the deputy head.
The total number of delegates is 437, including 251 athletes (including 119 male athletes and 132 female athletes), 186 coaches, staff, and competition support personnel.
The athletes come from 24 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities across the country, including 8 ethnic groups including Han, Mongolian, Miao, Buyi, Manchu, Dong, Yao and Bai.
The average age of the athletes is 27.5 years. The oldest is 56-year-old table tennis player Zhao Ping, and the youngest is 16-year-old swimmer Jiang Yuyan.
The athletes are all amateurs, and the professions include workers, farmers, students, civil servants, employees, and freelancers.
The vaccination rate of sports teams reached 100%.
The delegation will participate in archery, track and field, boccia, badminton, kayaking, cycling, blind judo, weightlifting, rowing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, wheelchair fencing, wheelchair tennis, taekwondo, triathlon, and blind football 20 major events and 341 minor events including wheelchair basketball, seated volleyball, and blind gateball are the largest events in my country’s participation in the overseas Paralympics. Four of the group events participated in all events, badminton, As Taekwondo entered the Summer Paralympic Games for the first time, the Chinese delegation teamed up to participate.
The goal of the delegation is to participate safely, show spirit, strive for success, pass on friendship, and achieve both sports performance and spiritual civilization.
The delegation attached great importance to epidemic prevention and control, increased the protection of the medical team, and formulated a thorough epidemic prevention and control plan. Each sports team set up an epidemic prevention and control commissioner, and all staff received epidemic prevention training, prepared sufficient prevention and control materials, and strictly implemented it. The epidemic prevention and control policy requires that the epidemic prevention and control work be done in all aspects and all links to ensure safe competition.
The Tokyo Paralympic Games has 22 major events and 539 minor events. 4,400 athletes from about 160 countries and regions will participate.
This is the 10th time my country has sent a delegation to participate in the Summer Paralympics.
