A German coach is impressed by the number of Saudi girls playing football

The director of the women's football department in the Saudi Football Federation, Lamia Bahian, considered that the appointment of German Monica Stabb as technical director of the Saudi women's team represents the beginning of the establishment and development of the first team, which will be formed during the coming period.

She added in a statement to Agence France-Presse that the German coach "had previously been closely acquainted with women's football in the Kingdom, where she was briefed last December during a training session on women's teams, and was impressed by the number of girls who play football."

Bahian stressed that the administration's goal is to establish and develop the women's first team, "and at the same time create and develop women's football in order to build an approved and sustainable structure for years, pointing to the important role that the German coach will play in this regard."

She indicated that Stab, in cooperation with the administration, "will conduct exploratory trips in every region of the Kingdom and visit schools and academies, and the focus will not be only on selecting players for the first team only, but will work on selecting players for the 17-year-old team."

She pointed out that STAB will be responsible for the technical supervision of the regional training centers, by virtue of its experience, as it will be responsible for implementing the training curricula, evaluating and selecting female trainers.

The regional training center in Riyadh for girls wishing to play football will start next September 11, with two-week trials, for girls aged 13, 15 and 17, which will be the first start for the Saudi national teams.

Stapp, 62, had previously supervised Germany's Eintracht Frankfurt and the Bahrain and Qatar national teams until 2017.

Stub will arrive in Saudi Arabia early next month, before she officially begins her duties with the Saudi Federation.
