- Towards the end it felt fantastic and before the last two climbs I said to my teammates: "Now we drive and shake this competition".

(Davide) Formolo and the rest of the team made an outstanding effort, says humble Pogacar according to the Tour de France's Twitter.

Pogacar, who drives for the UAE Team Emirates, did most of the work on his own.

There were five peaks to be passed during today's eighth stage between Oyonnax to Le Grand and Bornand over 150.8 kilometers.

For a while, the cluster with Pogacar was 6.5 minutes behind and with 30 miles left, Pogacar pushed on and only got Richard Carapaz, the winner of the Giro d'Italia 2019, who had to drop quite quickly in the long uphills.

Vacchi: "It's a slaughter"

Then Pogacar continued on heavy gears and took in minute by minute in the rain in the mountains.

Behind him, he left the competitors in total by the same margin.

Dylan Teuns won the stage after being solo at the end.

Ion Izagirre and Michael Woods were the others on the podium while Pogacar stepped in 49 seconds behind as fourth.

- It's a slaughter, says Roberto Vacchi about Pogacar in Eurosport's broadcast.

- It is a show that you rarely get to be part of, says Eurosport's expert Anders Adamson.

In total, Pogacar now leads with 1.48 ahead of Wout van Aert who lost five minutes on Pogacar on today's tough stage.
