After a legendary game, Spain validated its ticket for the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 thanks to its overtime victory against Croatia (5-3 ap).

La Roja has reached this stage of the competition for the first time since 2012, and will face the winner of the France-Switzerland match.

Spain (finally) returns to the quarter-finals of a major competition.

In a match with an unpredictable scenario against Croatia, La Roja, caught up at the end of regulation time, finally pulled out all the stops in extra time to win in the round of 16 of Euro 2020 (5-3 ap).

The Spaniards are waiting to know their future opponent, either France or Switzerland, in the quarter-finals on Friday in Saint Petersburg (9 p.m.).

Alvaro Morata finally decisive

The game had started off badly for Spain.

After the awkwardness of his striker Alvaro Morata (19th), the goalkeeper of Roja Unai Simon made an incredible blunder which gave the advantage to Croatia (1-0, 20th).

It was then a brilliant Spain who regained control of this round of 16.

Pablo Sarabia (38th), Cesar Azpilicueta (57th) and Ferran Torres (77th) allowed the Iberian selection to take off (3-1).

The return of Croatia in the last moments of regulation time turned this meeting into another dimension.

Mislav Orsic took advantage of a mess in the penalty area to score (85th), then Mario Pasalic gave hope to the Croats with a well-placed header (3-3, 90th + 2).

In overtime, Alvaro Morata, criticized for his lack of efficiency, and Oyarzabal scored the decisive goals (100th, 103rd) which propelled La Roja into the quarter-finals.
