Asked to react to the selection of Karim Benzema in the France team after more than five years of absence, the right-back Benjamin Pavard estimated on Europe 1 that the center-forward of Real Madrid and Didier Deschamps had taken the time to smooth out their differences, without pressure from the leaders of French football.

INTERVIEW

The coach of the France team Didier Deschamps unveiled Tuesday, at the end of the day, his list of 26 players selected to play the Euro football, which will begin on June 11. Among the outstanding names of the selection, that of Karim Benzema, who has not worn the jersey of the Blues for more than five years. "He's one of the greatest strikers in the world. He's been at Real Madrid for many years and he's been very successful there," observes Europe 1 Benjamin Pavard, crowned world champion with the France team in 2018 and who plays as the right side of the Blues.

"I think there was a discussion with the coach. We have complete confidence in the coach, and it will be a pleasure to find a player like that", adds Benjamin Pavard, while Karim Benzema has not been summoned any more since 2015 and his indictment in the sextape affair with Mathieu Valbuena.

Left aside for Euro 2016, Karim Benzema then estimated in a Spanish daily that "Deschamps [had] ceded to a racist part of France".

Pragmatism or real forgiveness?

Benjamin Pavard does not "think" that Didier Deschamps was able to bow to the pressure of the leaders of French football to bring back Karim Benzema, author of a great season in the Champions League with the Madrid club, within the Blues.

"Didier Deschamps is always open to discussion [...]", continues the French international.

"Apparently there would have been a conversation with Karim Benzema. The problem is between them, it's good that they were able to talk to each other."

"We are lucky to have three great attackers in the France team (Kylian MBappé, Antoine Griezmann and Karim Benzema,

), it is sure that it is a pleasure", concludes Benjamin Pavard.
