Yesterday, Fritz Keller resigned from the presidency of the German Football Association (DFB) following the uproar caused by his statements in which he likened his deputy, Rainer Koch, to Nazi judge Roland Friesler.

Keeler had announced a few days ago that he was ready to resign after he likened Koch to the Nazi judge who attended the Wannsee conference, which sparked the Holocaust, during his statements at a union meeting held last April, and no further details were announced about that analogy.

"I bear personal responsibility for my slip of the tongue during the Executive Committee meeting, which will remain a sad point in the position of the Federation leadership," Keeler said in a statement.

Keeler apologized earlier this May, but Koch did not accept the apology.

This crisis is considered a new episode in a series of scandals that the German Federation has witnessed in recent years.

Keeler admitted that his inappropriate behavior was "disgraceful" to the Federation, adding, "But my resignation will not solve the problems of the Federation and football."
