The battle for the gold was in advance between the Russians Angelina Melnikova and Viktoria Listunova.

20-year-old Melnikova was the best in the qualifiers and 15-year-old Listunova is the reigning Russian champion in all-around.

The duo, who started with hope, were also first and second after the first branch of a total of four in the all-around final.

Melnikova accounted for an almost flawless jump and took the lead with a score of 14,733 while Listunova landed at 14,466.

But then the fight came.

Two heavy cases

While Listunova made a good series of needles, it was a fall for Melnikova.

The 20-year-old came too close to the tool and hit the wrong hand with a hand and a drop in the carpet.

When it then became a fall even in the boom, the golden chance was definitely gone.

- So unnecessary.

She did not take the chance, so now we will see if she can keep a bronze here, says SVT Sports expert Veronica Wagner.

In the end, it was a silver for Melnikova, with a score of 55,432.

The bronze went to British Jessica Gadirova.

Nice Swedish location

The only Swede in the all-around final with a total of 24 gymnasts was the championship debutant Tonya Paulsson.

She started with a boom where it was 12.4 in points - slightly worse than her 12.6 in the qualifiers.

She followed it up with a stable independent program that gave 12.0 points.

- Well done by Tonya.

Should I be very picky, it's a bit costly landings, but I think she brings home all the nice gymnastic jumps, says Wagner.

Hope was a real hit before she finished with 12,900 in needles.

It was a total of 50,958 for the Swede, which was enough for a 14th place.

The German gymnasts competed, just like in the qualifiers, in full-body uniforms to mark against sexualisation in the sport.
