Buffalo has had a cracking start to the season.

18 losses in a row before the season's first win over Philadelphia the night before Maundy Thursday.

Then another loss against Rangers last night.

- We were disappointed the other day, we did not live up to our own expectations.

We talked about it afterwards and lifted some things, says temporary coach Don Granato.

Olofsson acknowledged

The New York Rangers led tonight's meeting 2-1 ahead of the closing period.

At the end of the third, Victor Olofsson equalized and the match was taken to extra time.

However, it became goalless and it was instead decided in the penalty shootout.

Linus Ullmark saved 28 shots in the Buffalo goal during 65 minutes of play and then kept empty in the cage during the penalty shootout.

The decisive penalty was set by Buffalo's Tage Thompson

Buffalo's Rasmus Dahlin is noted for an assist.

"Tough match for both"

Punishment was also required to decide the NY Islanders-Philadelphia meeting.

- It was a tough match for both teams, says Islanders coach Barry Trotz.

The New York team led 2-0 before the third period, both goals by Anthony Beauvillier.

In the final period, it was Philadelphia's Claude Giroux's turn to score two goals and the equalizer took the match to a goalless extra time.

- It was a rather strange match, how it developed.

But I think we did a good job and stuck to the plan.

It is never easy when you lose a lead to come back, says Beauvillier.

Islanders Mathew Barzal put the decisive penalty in the fourth round.
