From a historical point of view, Thomas Tuchel's honorary title doesn't sound so friendly.

The Daily Mail describes the German Chelsea coach as the “new tinkerman”: the new inventor.

The original Tinkerman was called Claudio Ranieri, coached the London club at the beginning of the millennium and established the practice of rotations, which at the time was still disturbing for the more traditional island audience.

With his experiments, so the mockery went, Ranieri confused himself more than his opponents.

Nowadays, in view of the more intense play, even more luxurious squads and especially in Corona times, hardly anyone will doubt the sense of personnel changes. As a result, it's less about whether someone is tinkering and more about how well they do it. In this respect, Tuchel can shine as a double record holder.
