The Beaujoire stadium.

  • The occupation agreement for the Beaujoire stadium, which currently binds the FCN to Nantes Métropole, will end on June 30.

  • The next agreement will only be two years, warns the community.

  • At the same time, the occupation of the Jonelière center is also under discussion.

If FC Nantes is the irremovable occupant of the Beaujoire stadium for more than thirty-five years, the current agreement between the club and Nantes metropolis, owner of the enclosure, will expire on June 30, 2021. It will expire therefore be renewed.

A step that necessarily passes through a "competitive process and publicity", in other words, a call to potential candidates, announced the community on Thursday.

They are warned: the new agreement will be of "short duration".

The metropolis does not wish to commit beyond two years, "

given the work that will take place in the stadium until 2023 to host the Rugby World Cup and the Olympic football tournament of the year. next ".

This transitional agreement “will define the roles of Nantes Métropole and the occupant in terms of use, maintenance and works and will specify the amount of the fee payable by the occupant”.

It will be put to the vote of the Metropolitan Council in June 2021 before its entry into force.

Rent increased

Another agreement, with a "long-term" commitment period, will be proposed again in 2023. By then, Nantes Métropole hopes to obtain more visibility on the intentions of FC Nantes and its president Waldemar Kita, as well as on the future of French professional football strongly threatened by the collapse of television rights.

Knowing that the metropolis has never hidden its intention to review the rent upwards (140,000 euros per year currently).

Anyway, it is difficult to see, given the sporting landscape in the West, what other club than FC Nantes could intend to come and tread regularly on the lawn of Beaujoire.

La Jonelière, another imminent case

At the same time, a new occupancy agreement will also have to be concluded for the José-Arribas training center in La Jonelière.

The current agreement will expire on June 30 (without a call for competition).

This file is more thorny insofar as Waldemar Kita considers the current site too narrow and is seriously considering a move outside the metropolis.

Ali Rebouh, vice-president of Nantes Métropole in charge of high-level sport, is well aware of the stakes.

“We are all attached to FC Nantes.

It is part of our heritage and our history.

We want its activities to remain in the metropolis.

I expressed my wishes to its president Waldemar Kita and Nantes Métropole's commitment in this regard.

It is essential to work collectively, methodically, in transparency and serenity.
