Diego Armando Maradona, football

Born:

October 30, 1960, Lanús, Argentina.

Died:

November 25, 2020, Tigre, Argentina.

Thousands lined up in central Buenos Aires to say goodbye to Maradona and around the football world he was honored - the football player with the low center of gravity, the unsurpassed technique, the unparalleled perception of the game - which for most was "El Pibe de Oro", the greatest football genius as the world has seen.

In addition, the Argentine government announced three days of national mourning.

Maradona led the national team to World Cup gold in 1986 - after a 3-2 victory in the final against West Germany - and somewhere he became immortal in his home country.

In the quarter-final victory against England, he decided with two unforgettable goals.

The first - known as "God's hand" - was cheating that the judge missed.

The second - where he dribbled past five English players - has been voted the football goal of the century.

Paolo Rossi, football

Born:

September 23, 1956, Prato, Italy.

Died:

December 9, 2020, Rome, Italy.

Brazil charmed an entire world and in Argentina it was thought that young Maradona would shine the most.

But it was Paolo Rossi, 26, who excelled most at the 1982 World Cup - and with his six goals he made sure to bring Italy to the title.

However, it was close that a game scandal stopped Rossi from being part of the Italian squad.

In Perugia, he was drawn into "Totonero" and banned from all games for three years in 1980, a punishment that was then shortened to two years - and the striker was thus able to put on the blue national team jersey just in time for the World Cup.

Later that year, he won the Ballon d'Or as the best European player.

During the 1960s and 70s, Pelle Svensson won two World Cup golds, two European Championship golds and one Olympic silver.

After his active career, he became chairman of the Swedish Wrestling Federation and a member of the international federation Fila.

He was combative and often ended up in conflicts.

- Sometimes people thought "do you know where you have said now, Pelle?"

when one saw his statement.

But he always defended himself and told why he did this or that and it was written about it.

So it was for the best of wrestling, former national team captain Jan "Pyrre" Nyberg recently told TT.

Svensson also made a name for himself as a lawyer and worked with several known cases, such as the Johan case, the murders in Åmsele and the Lindome case.
