Klopp astonished by the transformation of Tottenham into a "results machine" with Mourinho

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp said Tuesday that Jose Mourinho has proven his ability to withstand criticism and has recovered from the elite coaches led by Tottenham Hotspur to the top of the Premier League.

Tottenham, under Mourinho's leadership, has the best defensive record and is ahead of defending champions Liverpool before their top match at Anfield on Wednesday.

Although Tottenham has been accused of being a counter-attacking defensive team, Klopp said there were similarities with his team.

"Mourinho has shown that he has the ability to recover and what he did at Tottenham is very impressive," the German coach told reporters.

"The way he plays is really good, has turned into a positive results machine, and his plan is not based on counterattacks only, but he has a disciplined team," he added.

"Harry Kane has retreated to the depth, as Roberto Firmino does, as he has two fast wings and an offensive midfield in the presence of (Tangy) Ndombele and a strong midfield behind him. This is real football and the top of the league cannot be reached with counterattacks only."

Klopp is aware of the scoring abundance of Tottenham duo Kane and Son Heung-min, who together scored 19 goals and provided 14 assists in the competition, but stressed the presence of other weapons.

He continued, "Unfortunately, if we control them, there are many good players and threatening sources in many areas of the stadium.

Klopp said the participation of defender Joel Matip was in doubt due to a back problem, while he would wait until late for midfielder Naby Keita to decide.
