This weekend, her back ached and Sarah Sjöström refrained from competing in the International Swimming League.

But today she was back, and stood on the starting line for her Energy Standard.

Led the majority

Her first distance of the day was 50 meters freestyle, where she was challenged by the Dutch star and world record holder Ranomi Kromowidjojo (including three Olympic and 15 World Cup golds on the merit list) and the Swede Michelle Coleman.

Sjöström showed no major ring rust, but - despite a mediocre start - took the lead early and kept it all the way to the finish.

The victory time was 23.41, 14 hundredths before Kromowidjojo.

Sjöström's Swedish record from 2017 is 23.00.

Michelle Coleman, Toronto Titans, finished sixth in a time of 24.35.
