Saturday is the women's final of the French Open.

The 2020 edition of Roland-Garros pits the Polish Swiatek against the American Kenin.

20 years ago, it was the Frenchwoman Mary Pierce who won.

The winner of the final of the 2020 Roland-Garros edition will receive the precious trophy from the hands of Mary Pierce on Saturday.

A choice that owes nothing to chance since Mary Pierce is the last Frenchwoman to have won Roland Garros 20 years ago.

In 2000, she won in the final against the Spaniard Conchita Martinez (6-2, 7-5) and lifted the Suzanne-Lenglen Cup for the first and last time.

One of the two future winners of the day was not even born during this historic victory for France!

The Polish Swiatek is only 19 years old while her opponent, the American Kenin, is approaching her 22nd year in this unprecedented final.

Mary Pierce, who will set foot on the Philippe-Chatrier court 20 years after her victory, remembers the final with emotion, she who is "always happy to come back" to Roland-Garros.

"When I see the Philippe-Chatrier court, it makes me want to play again!", She says with nostalgia, "I want to put on my clothes, to be on the field and to play a great match in front of a stadium full of public ".

Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus epidemic, the stands will not be as full as usual this year.

Public or not, when will another French victory be expected?

The last French Open winner is getting impatient, she wants a succession!

"You have to give the mentality to dream, to aim high and not to be afraid", she explains, "I have the impression that the French are afraid of not succeeding and of being disappointed".

More generally, Mary Pierce is committed to young tennis players.

She took two under her wing: an American of Cameroonian origin and an Ivorian.

Without resources, they need the help of a great champion to, perhaps, shine one day on the central court of Roland-Garros.
