Inspection of the German Federation headquarters and the homes of officials in a tax evasion case

The Frankfurt Public Prosecutor announced that the judicial authorities searched today, Wednesday, the headquarters of the German Football Association (DFB) and the homes of "current and former officials" as part of an investigation into a tax evasion case.

The public prosecutor said in a press statement that six current or former officials of the federation are under investigation for "tax evasion in serious cases", without naming them.

The statement pointed out that the suspects "deliberately failed to report revenues from external advertisements for the national football team's international matches in 2014 and 2015" so that the association could avoid paying nearly 4.7 million euros ($ 5.5 million) in taxes.

More than 200 investigators participated in the search, which also targeted many private homes.

Fritz Keeler, who took over the presidency of the German Football Federation last year, confirmed during a press conference in the capital Berlin that his association "will cooperate fully" and "welcomes the state's support in the investigations."
