• Technique New Seat León: how its chassis makes it special

  • History. 70 years of Seat, in 15 cars

  • Strategy: Seat el-Born will finally be Cupra el-Born

Seat will begin delivery of the new León e-Hybrid throughout this month, the first plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) of the brand company, with a

combined maximum power of 204 hp and a range in zero emissions mode of 64 kilometers depending on the cycle WLTP (72 in the NEDC),

which means that it has the ZERO emissions label from the DGT that protects it from any type of restrictions.

For example, the entrance to the city center, in addition to not having to pay for parking in places like Madrid.

The car, available with both the five-door body and the station wagon, has

prices that start at 34,080 euros, a figure that should be discounted for the brand's launch campaign and possible aid

from the Moves II or the Renove 2020, which reach 2,600 euros by giving an old car in exchange (1,900 euros if it is not done).

Excellent price / performance ratio

Considering its size, power and range, there is no

plug-in

hybrid right now

that offers so much for that price.

Furthermore, it is even very competitive within the León range itself, since, with the same equipment, it

costs 7,500 euros more than the gasoline version of (only) 150 horses with DSG gearbox;

and 4,300 euros more than the microhybrid with the same engine.

But the latter only has the ECO label and the car cannot move even a kilometer powered only by electricity.

With the arrival of this technology, which will also receive the large Tarraco SUV shortly,

the Leon range is offered with up to five mechanical alternatives: gasoline, diesel, CNG (compressed natural gas), light hybrid (e-TSI) and hybrid 'plug-in' (e-Hybrid), with powers ranging from 90 to 204 horses and labels C, Eco and ZERO emissions.

acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.5 seconds

In addition, it means taking

the connectivity of the León range

a step further

, since the usual functions

(e-call, Apple Car Paly and Android Auto, updates, remote access to vehicle data and its location, alerts for excess speed or theft, online entertainment ...)

adds the possibility of remotely controlling the battery charge, its status, and activating the air conditioning remotely using the smartphone.

Technically, the León PHEV uses a 150-horsepower 1.4 TSI petrol engine, plus another 116-horsepower electric, with a combined power of 204 horsepower, which translates into

350 Nm of maximum torque, a peak of 220 km / h and a acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in just 7.5 seconds.

This potential is managed through a six-speed DSG automatic transmission with 'Shift-by-wire' technology (with electronic connection between the selector lever and the gearbox).

The approved average consumption ranges between 1.1 and 1.3 liters per 100 km,

equivalent to CO2 emissions of 25 to 30 grams per kilometer.

Ibiza trunk in the 5 doors

The lithium-ion battery has a gross capacity of 13 kWh, and is recharged both when braking or decelerating as well as by connecting it to the mains, which requires just

under six hours in a household outlet at 2.3 kW and three hours and 42 minutes if it is 3.6 kW.

To extend the life of the electrical system and improve its efficiency, also when charging,

the electrical assembly has additional water cooling.

In addition, the air conditioning compressor is implemented with it, which allows it to be set remotely either by making use of the high-voltage battery and the network if it is plugged in.

All

the information regarding the status of the hybrid system

(flows, regeneration, charging, autonomy ...)

can be consulted by the driver both through the central screen in the console and in the digital instrument panel.

On the negative side, we must mention the weight that the batteries and the rest of the electrical elements add (

about 300 extra kilos)

and the space that they rob the trunk.

For example, the five-door body loses 110 liters and is only 270 liters,

less than an Ibiza.

While the SportTourer goes from 620 to 470, a more bearable figure.

Depending on the chosen finish (Xcellence or FR), the Léon e-Hybrid adds

to the elements already mentioned, 17-inch wheels, navigator with updateable cartography, adjustable suspensions, driving mode selector, exterior and interior LED lights and a huge arsenal of driving aids, with emergency assistant, travel assistant, lateral, blind spot detection up to 70 meters, rear traffic alert when backing out or warning not to open the door if another car is coming or a motorcycle.

In short, an adaptive and predictive cruise control will be added that makes use of the online connection to obtain information on traffic and infrastructure.
