He was only 3 months old when Olivier Panis won the Monaco Grand Prix in 1996. Twenty-four years later, Pierre Gasly succeeded him after a quarter of a century without a Frenchman on the top step of the podium of a GP de Formula 1.

A victory at the end of a mad race, in Monza in Italy, temple of speed.

Pierre Gasly, who started 10th on the grid with his Alpha Tauri, has recovered.

He took advantage of an interruption following the spectacular but minor accident of Monegasque Charles Leclerc and a penalty imposed on the leader of the world ranking of drivers, the Briton Lewis Hamilton.

Pierre Gasly then found himself in the lead with 25 laps from the finish and 5 seconds ahead of Carlos Sainz.

The Spaniard moved closer to the French, tried to overtake him on the last lap.

Without success.

Much to the delight of the 24-year-old driver who signs his first victory in his 55th Grand Prix.

Pierre Gasly, 13th French driver in history to win, is also the youngest.

He is precocious than Alain Prost, winner for the first time at 26 years old and who then became a quadruple world champion of Formula 1.
