Alexander Kristoff won the first stage of the Tour de France in the sprint on Saturday in Nice. The rain mainly animated the race. Due to the wet and therefore very slippery road, there were a lot of falls, as well as mechanical incidents. Jumbo-Visma and Astana, the two leading teams, slowed down on the descent in an attempt to limit the damage. Due to the weather conditions, times were frozen 3 km from the finish. Just after the virtual line, many riders fell, including Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ).

17 kilometers from the finish, Benoît Cosnefroy (AG2R) attempted a solo attack, which woke up the peloton. He was quickly picked up.
