It is in the aftermath of the death toll against Georoge Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement that the athletes formed The Athletics Association, TAA, (the Athletics Federation) to put pressure on the IOC to change the regulations banning political actions.

"In fact, the rules prevent the active from showing the Olympic spirit at the Olympics," writes the group, which includes six-time Olympic champion Allyson Felix, Christian Taylor, Emma Coburn, Shaunae Miller-Uibo and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce .

Thomas Bach wants to stay until 2025

As early as 1968, Tommie Smith and John Carlos protested with black gloves in the air at the podium in Mexico City after 200 meters. "Very little has happened since then," writes TAA. Smith and Carlos had to pay a high price and were frozen out by heavy bodies in society after their high-profile protest.

"We want to be able to peacefully protest against social injustices in the world without being punished," the group writes.

The IOC stated its support for the regulations at the beginning of the year but will discuss the issue again this week. At the same time, today the IOC's head Thomas Bach went out and declared that he wants to stay for another four years until 2025, something that will be decided next year. The German former Olympic champion in team fencing (Montreal 1976) has been chairman of the IOC since 2013.
